Another reason to celebrate this week

I'm not a fan of organized religion. I see godliness in everything around me but our man made fit everything into the same box religions don't do it justice. I'm more animistic with a splash of buddhism in there. Don't be a sheep, find your own spiritual path.

Anyways, Winter officially started last week winter solstice and that was my main reason for celebration. Christmas day was a blast and my body has been recovering for the rest of the week. Back to back storms are setting up off Japan. Finally some glassy waves. Epicness to come.

Surf

We got some waves coming today. It might be too west for us and the wind might be a little too north but whatever.

I stole this video from Deb on facebook. You can skip the first minute, love the song.

I love watching and have a great respect for people who have mastered their craft. Whether it's surfing, windsurfing, mountain biking, pole-dancing, cooking or even fucking bowling. Not everyone has the drive or courage to focus on mastering something. It takes a mix of dedication, time and raw talent. It's people like this that push the level of what we believe is possible and inspire people for generations. Maybe we can all strive to master something.

Here is your stupid video to start off your week.

WITHINcast Episode 2 from LINKtv on Vimeo.

And here is a little poetry written by a good friend of mine.

Pulse
In one second
Your heart pumps two times
You blink both eyes
You feel awake
You clap your hands
You scream out loud
You turn the light switch on
In one second,
You feel alive.

I. Garden Rest
Thick blanket of emerald grass
Rubs against my back
Cold wet leaves,
Poke every inch of my leather skin

My eyes shut down
Like closed books, no magic goes out
Consumed by the deep black dreams

Rocking back and forth
Feeling every end of each leaf
Shaping it to fit my mold
Parting the green sea

I lie, I breathe, I dream
Morning melodies calling me awake
No more dreaming, open books
Early sunshine

II. Not a Dream
Sun rising to the east
Sweet tender touching morning
Fresh flower smells

Songs of joy welcoming this new day,
Birds moving to the morning rhythm
All over the blue dance floor,
One more day in paradise

Sun kissed day
Hot, bright, shine
Waves roaring on the coast
Some of us dream of paradise

Sundown, time to calm
Moon up, time for her
Night stories and stellar shows
Not a dream anymore
My paradise, my island days

I. March High
You were standing here
Just now, like a vibrant cardinal
Your soul now flies into the vast sky

You sing and laugh
Melodies of pain and regret

Your were lying here
Just now, by my side

Now you march into infinite paradise
You sail the wind, and fly high
Fast, reaching for your piece of sky

How long would it take you
To reach your destiny,
Would you wait for me
To come fly away with you

II. Run away
It reaches you
Pouring like heavy rain
It strikes your veins,
Like thunder lights
You think you are ready,
But you are not
It hits you like cold rushing winter wind
How could you escape?
Run, Run away from it.

Run until you feel no more
Your legs collapse
Into dark pavement
No one will be watching
As you escape away

It must feel good
Don’t worry, we will all run after you

Still
In one second
Your heart stops beating
Your eyes shut down
Something takes you away
Your clap echoes into the vast sky,
You feel no more pain
In one second,
You take that step away

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, go kick some ass!

Don't be fooled by her cuteness she's educated and she will educate you. This is the best video I've seen for the who, what, where, when, why, and how questions about the Hawaii overthrow.

I've learned something new today as well, Hawaii's state slogan; Ua Mau Ke Ea O Ka Aina I Ka Pono-which is translated as The Life of the Land is Perpetuated in Righteousness has another meaning. It can also be translated as the The SOVEREIGNTY of the land is perpetuated in Righteousness. It was first spoken publicly by Kamehameha III after England returned the Hawaiian lands it stole. This slogan is printed on every state seal and stamped on every document or thing the state owns. It's there for everyone to see, Hawaii is supposed to be sovereign and someday righteousness will guide it to that destination.

R.I.P. Big Mike

I had an interesting day to say the least. I'll have a post a little bit later. We have to give thanks and make the most of each day that we have. Here's a video with lyrics below

There's traffic in the sky
And it doesn't seem to be getting much better
There's kids playing games on the pavement
Drawing waves on the pavement
Shadows of the planes on the pavement
Its enough to make me cry
But that don't seem like it would make it feel better
Maybe its a dream and if I scream
It will burst at the seams
This whole place will fall to pieces
And then they'd say...

Well how could we have known?
I'll tell them it's not so hard to tell
If you keep on adding stones
Soon the water will be lost in the well

Puzzle pieces in the ground
But no one ever seems to be digging
Instead they're looking up towards the heavens
With their eyes on the heavens
There are shadows on the way to the heavens
It's enough to make me cry
But that don't seem like it would make it feel better
The answers could be found
We could learn from digging down
But no one ever seems to be digging
Instead they'll say...

Well how could we have known?
I'll tell them it's not so hard to tell
If you keep on adding stones
Soon the water will be lost in the well

Words of wisdom all around
But no one ever seems to listen
They're talking about their plans on paper
Building up from the pavement
There are shadows from the scrapers on the pavement
It's enough to make me sigh
But that don't seem like it would make it feel better
The words are all around
But the words are only sounds
And no one ever seems to listen
Instead they'll say

Well how could we have known?
I'll tell them it's really not so hard to tell
If you keep on adding stones
Soon the water will be lost in the well, lost in the well

La Nina in control+plus long long waves

Word is the Puta of surf, La Nina, is in control this winter. In general that means lots of wind and less waves for the winter. Pray for surf.

Kauli is back and he rips REALLY hard. Here is a epic video from Peru. The waves are long and so is the video so grab a snack an enjoy.

Event wrap up

First off, this was definitely the best run event I've been part of. Everything from judging, organization, parties, stoke and good vibes. Mahalos to everyone that made it happened.

Here is my quick recap of the event that has consumed my life for the last week.
Time on beach: 20+ hours
Time competing: 12 minutes
Total time on water: 2 hours
Number of unforgettable waves: 1
Epic solo sessions I will never forget: 1

People who ripped:
Camille-Pure talent. He brings his own style to wave sailing and will change the future of wave riding like Polakow, Levi, and Kauli have.
Browzino-Mixes freestyle moves over the lip in critical sections.
Kai-Sailed like a machine. I was rooting for him. He needed one more set in the final and he could have taken it.

Dissapointed by:
Levi-He is one of the best at Hookipa and I wish he had done the contest. I'm sure he has his reasons for not doing it though.
P.W.A.-for restricting the top ten from doing the event, no Kauli, no Victor. Lame.

I'm not a competitive sailor and never have been. When I used to race I would be looking for ramps to jump the entire time. When I went to events I was enjoying the traveling much more than the sailing and competing.

Friday
Small waves and side-on wind. Had fun in my heat but got the boot by Fabrice and Nat. I was pretty miserable for an hour since the forecast was looking great for Monday and Tuesday and there wouldn't be time for a double elimination. Laura put everything in perspective for me and cheered me up.

Saturday/Sunday-Spent the days cooking in the sun watching the event. People pay to come on vacation and sit around and do nothing???

Monday-Tricky light wind and a decent swell with bomb cleanup sets coming every half hour. If the surfer rule was in affect there would have been no windsurfing for sure. Exciting! Kai, Josh, Francisco in the same heat. Three legends of the sport. After watching them rip my hands started shaking and I NEEDED to go sailing. It was firing. Light wind, glassy waves, and jet ski rescue service. No brainer. They put the contest on hold and I got a few waves before they started it again. I watched from way out the back because I wanted to respect the contest and not interfere in any way. I was secretly hoping they would be done after that heat as well. After the contest was over I got on the water right away. I had flashes of the 2004 Aloha Classic. It was too big for me then, but all the pros went out after the contest and destroyed it in the light offshore wind. Some of the best sailing I've ever seen at Ho'okipa. I managed to avoid the rocks and dodge a couple sets and then the bomb came. I saw it on the horizon and tried to signal to my fried John Gangini who was surfing that a bomb set was coming. He was sitting on the inside and was going to and did take a serious beating. I picked the fattest, lumpyest, one of the set and probably the day and pumped like hell to get on it. Usually at this size it closes out and there's a huge rip running through the wave making it a sloppy mess. Not this one, 4 glassy turns and I was all smiles. That wave will keep my stoke meter at ecstatic for at least a week for sure. Got a couple more and called it a day as the surfers paddled out. This shot might be the third turn of that wave, not sure though

Makani Classic+New Style

I've been having blogin(blogger login) problems this week but I got in now and I'm going to make up for the lack luster posting performance. Here we go...

In my creative writing class we were taught that your writing is an expression of yourself and you must not censor yourself. Only by expressing yourself can your writing truly grow. Thanks Mrs. Matsuda, so I'll be honest with you I only took your class because it was a writing intensive(need 5 to graduate) and your English 100 class was so easy a fat Thai Kid could have passed it while practicing for American Idol season 37 see video here.

Anyways, I'm going to start being honest on this blog. I'm getting bored with "wind and waves were great life is awesome" posts, even though it is. Sorry if I offend my loyal readers(all 12 of them), shit there I go lying again, I'm not sorry. I hope you're offended. Complacencly leads to an agonizing death of ones spirit. Maybe you will get to see the world through a small piece of the lens that I see it through. Maybe you'll learn something and teach something in return. Maybe you'll tune out, I don't care.

There will be more videos, more pics, and more music, I'll try to keep in ocean sport related but I can't promise you anything.

On a different note, in Hawaiian tradition this time of the year is the beginning of Makahiki season. This was a time of celebration, competition, and relaxation for the Hawaiian people. Crops were harvested during the fall and with the oncoming swells, and storms fishing and agriculture went on hold. People stopped working and enjoyed a three month vacation from most day to day duties. Sounds like fun huh. In the spirit of Makahiki season, on to the contest!

Sam has done an amazing job and to see the stoke of nearly everyone down at the beach is incredible. All the sponsors and everyone dedicating time to this event has made something really special. For me contests don't put me in a good state of mind. I get edgy and start snapping at my girlfriend for nothing. I think they aren't for me, but whatever. I enjoy the time on the water for sure but I don't feel the need to prove myself to anyone else. What do I care if you give me a 2 or 9 for my wave? I'm having fun.

We still have two days to go we could see some amazing conditions.

Check out this video from the Goodwins. Inspiration. They are traveling the world with their small children promoting a simple lifestyle. Some day I might have to courage to do the things I want.

The Goodwin Project from Avocados and Coconuts on Vimeo.

When I'm sailing I usually have a song stuck in my head, this was last weeks song lyrics are below

Peace

[Nas Talking - Intro]
Here we are
here we are
Yeah
This one right here is for the people

[Hook] (Sample -MAMADOU & MARIAM, “SABALI”)
Sabali, Sabali, Sabali, yonkontê
Sabali, Sabali, Sabali, kiye
Ni kêra môgô
Sabali, Sabali, Sabali, yonkontê
Sabali, Sabali, Sabali, kagni
Ni kêra môgô

[Nas Talking]
Ay yo D. Lets go all the way on this one.

[Damian Marley - Verse 1]
Some of the smartest dummies
Can’t read the language of Egyptian mummies
An’ a fly go a moon
And can’t find food for the starving tummies
Pay no mind to the youths
Cause it’s not like the future depends on it
But save the animals in the zoo
Cause the chimpanzee dem a make big money
This is how the media pillages
On the TV the picture is
Savages in villages
And the scientist still can’t explain the pyramids, huh
Evangelists making a living on the videos of ribs of the little kids
Stereotyping the image of the images
And this is what the image is
You buy a khaki pants
And all of a sudden you say a Indiana Jones
An’ a thief out gold and thief out the scrolls and even the buried bones
Some of the worst paparazzis I’ve ever seen and I ever known
Put the worst on display so the world can see
And that’s all they will ever show
So the ones in the west
Will never move east
And feel like they could be at home
Dem get tricked by the beast
But a where dem ago flee when the monster is fully grown?
Solomonic linage whe dem still can’t defeat and them coulda never clone
My spiritual DNA that print in my soul and I will forever Own Lord

[Hook]

[Nas talking]
Yeah, Sabali. Thats patience. That’s what the old folks told me…
Discovering the World before this World. A World buried in time.
Uncover with rhymes. It gets no realer.

[Damian Marley: Verse 2]
Huh, we born not knowing, are we born knowing all?
We growing wiser, are we just growing tall?
Can you read thoughts? can you read palms?
Huh, can you predict the future? can you see storms, coming?
The Earth was flat if you went too far you would fall off
Now the Earth is round if the shape change again everybody woulda start laugh
The average man can’t prove of most of the things that he chooses to speak of
And still won’t research and find out the root of the truth that you seek of
Scholars teach in Universities and claim that they’re smart and cunning
Tell them find a cure when we sneeze and that’s when their nose start running
And the rich get stitched up, when we get cut
Man a heal dem broken bones in the bush with the wed mud
Can you read signs? can you read stars?
Can you make peace? can you fight war?
Can you milk cows, even though you drive cars? huh
Can you survive, Against All Odds, Now?

[Hook]

[Nas]
It’s crazy when you feed people the truth you don’t know how they’re gonna react. You’re scared of wrong doers, people that just ignorant, You’re scared of the truth, be patient for now.

[Nas: Verse 3]
Who wrote the Bible? Who wrote the Qur’an?
And was it a lightning storm
That gave birth to the Earth
And then dinosaurs were born? damn
Who made up words? who made up numbers?
And what kind of spell is mankind under?
Everything on the planet we preserve and can it
Microwaved it and try it
No matter what we’ll survive it
What’s hue? what’s man? what’s human?
Anything along the land we consuming
Eatin’, deletin’, ruin
Trying to get paper
Gotta have land, gotta have acres
So I can sit back like Jack Nicholson
Watch n-ggas play the game like the lakers
In a world full of 52 fakers
Gypsies, seances, mystical prayers
You superstitious? throw salt over your shoulders
Make a wish for the day cuz
Like somebody got a doll of me
Stickin’ needles in my arteries
But I can’t feel it
Sometimes it’s like ‘pardon me, but I got a real big spirit’
I’m fearless…. I’m fearless
Don’t you try and grab hold of my soul
It’s like a military soldier since seven years old
I held real dead bodies in my arms
Felt their body turn cold, oh
Why we born in the first place
If this is how we gotta go?
Damn.

This goes to all the wisdom and knowledge seekers of the World. Sabali, Patience, yeah.
[End]

Political Activism

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

I don't know if mister 100 dollar bill actually said this, but it seems that we are moving from democracy to liberty. Political activism in coming into fashion again and it's about time. Protests are springing up worldwide for a range of topics. Many of them will probably loose steam, but a few might have legs and make a difference. Maybe a law will be passed from the occupy wall street people that will allow campaign contributions to be limited to $1 dollar per person/group.

The windsurfing community here in Maui has something to fight for. Windsurfing at Ho'okipa is being threatened. Kitesurfers are trying to gain access and restrict windsurfers access by implementing a 5 man rule. Hopefully this is only rumor, but we need to have input before these rules become law. It's our Kuleana or responsibility to not only become part of the discussion but to also follow the ten man rule and RESPECT the surfers in the water. Surfers out number windsurfers by scores and they will have much more influence then windsurfers ever will.

Self-observation
from Ouspensky's "In Search of the Miraculous," pp. 146-49

Gurdjieff:
"When a man comes to realize the necessity not only for self-study and self-observation but also for work on himself with the object of changing himself, the character of his self-observation must change. He has so far studied the details of the work of the centers, trying only to register this or that phenomenon, to be an impartial witness. He has studied the work of the machine. Now he must begin to see himself, that is to say, to see, not separate details, not the work of small wheels and levers, but to see everything taken together as a whole--the whole of himself such as others see him.
"For this purpose a man must learn to take, so to speak, 'mental photographs' of himself at different moments of his life and in different emotional states: and not photographs of details, but photographs of the whole as he saw it. In other words these photographs must contain simultaneously everything that a man can see in himself at a given moment. Emotions, moods, thoughts, sensations, postures, movements, tones of voice, facial expressions, and so on. If a man succeeds in seizing interesting moments for these photographs he will very soon collect a whole album of pictures of himself which, taken together, will show him quite clearly what he is. But it is not so easy to learn how to take these photographs at the most interesting and characteristic moments, how to catch characteristic postures, characteristic facial expressions, characteristic emotions, and characteristic thoughts. If the photographs are taken successfully and if there is a sufficient number of them, a man will see that his usual conception of himself, with which he has lived from year to year, is very far from reality.
"Instead of the man he had supposed himself to be he will see quite another man. This 'other' man is himself and at the same time not himself. It is he as other people know him, as he imagines himself and as he appears in his actions, words, and so on; but not altogether such as he actually is. For a man himself knows that there is a great deal that is unreal, invented, and artificial in this other man whom other people know and whom he knows himself. You must learn to divide the real from the invented. And to begin self-observation and self-study it is necessary to divide oneself. A man must realize that he indeed consists of two men.

Is the revolution starting? This could be interesting...Bank Transfer day

Incredible, really hope we get a good lanes day this year...

Corrupt police with AK's, hundreds of miles of inhospitable desert to cross, freezing cold water, angry sea lion colonies, and big ass sharks. This wave was found on Google Earth by some kid on the mainland. Cory Lopez and a group went and scored. What an adventure.

I don't know where I read it, but I believe a real adventure is something you might not return from, but if you do, you WILL NOT be the same person.

Sailing has been good here, everyone is frothing over the early north swells. Here is a sequence from Jimmie Hepp, this is the first real lip I've hit since my back went out in February, it felt really good...

Surf

Summer time forecasts don't get much better then this.

"Outlook through Wednesday Aug 31: a new south swell will peak Friday night, and slowly lower over the weekend. A larger south swell will arrive on Sunday and peak on Monday, bringing surf near advisory levels for south facing shores. An even larger south swell will arrive late Monday and peak on Tuesday, bringing surf above advisory levels."

Waterfall wonderland

17 mile white sand beaches+200 foot waterfalls in the jungle+acres of undeveloped virgin land+endless surf setups=Paradise Found.

Every place I have ever been to is beautiful in its own way. The beauty is easy to see in some places and in others you have to search it out and use your imagination. Kauai is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. You can stop at any point on the island and see post card perfection views. No words can paint an accurate picture, and pictures fail to grasp the scale of what you are seeing. The vibe is slow and mellow except for the mustangs and jeeps that are on a mission to make sure their vacation is as complicated as their home lives.

I will be spending some time here in the future.
Here are a couple pictures more to come as soon as I go through them all.

Summer+Epic Surf

Summer and Epic surf aren't mentioned together very often. This summer has been different though. The swells haven't been over hyped, they've met even the most optimistic forecasts. As if they were making up for the last few years of advisory level ankle slappers.

Lots of smiles and lots of uncrowded waves. This last swell was the best I've seen in years and I got to surf one of those misto nameless, often mind-surfed but never ridden, breaks only in your dreams and on the right tide sort of waves. It was sick!

No Hate in the 808

There are very few things in life worth hating. Fear can be used as motivation, but hatred has no purpose. Each of us has a duty to rid the hatred in our lives and fill it with love and compassion. The hatred I've been dealing with is that of missing epic sessions. I hate it when it's firing and I can't be out there. I become antsy, irritable, and turn into a pretty miserable person to be around. I'm learning though, yesterday was firing, and I managed to watch everyone surf one of my favorite spots and I actually enjoyed it! It's a small step with a long process to go, but I'm learning and I challenge everyone to conquer their hatred and learn from it. We are all so blessed.

The surf is sick and it should be good all week. Here's Luifer's first barrel!

Oregon+Firelight

After hurting myself and not finishing last in the contest I had almost given up on sailing for the trip. The forecast was calling for wind but now swell. On our drive up the coast to the Gorge we stopped by the Jetty and scored a little session. The conditions weren't epic, head high, light gusty side side-off wind and rippable. Diego, Russ, and Sam were there already watching it and they weren't very motivated. I got super excited and started frantically unpacking my bags and rigging up. I rigged the new 5.0 Firelight and it was the perfect sail for the conditions. It's one of the lightest if not the lightest sail on the market. The sail is light like the Superfreaks but still has the crisp feel of the Fires. It's extremely easy to sail, and after two hours I still hadn't fallen in. The wind was a little light for everyone else, but for me it was the best session of the trip. Maybe it was because I hadn't hit a lip since February, regardless, I came in with a smile from ear to ear. This same sort of thing happened to me in Morocco. I had given up on sailing for the trip, the forecast was flat, and out of no where a logo high swell came in. If you keep a positive attitude everything seems to fall into place.

Oregon Pics+Duck Surfing

The contest didn't go as well as planned but the trip was one of the best ever. The sailing was really fun the day before the event, 3.7 and logo high onshore waves. Sick. The first day of the contest started with light winds and small waves. The wind slowly built all day and by my heat it was solid 4.2. Then it really started nuking. I started my heat with a tweaked jump(notice the hoodie)

and then got destroyed on a forward. .

Here is the sequence;

The take off was good

Here I am just starting to sheet in

Now I start to get into trouble if you click on the photo you can see that my frozen hand has slipped off the boom.

At this point I have hit the ejection bottom and I am trying to get as far away from my gear as possible. I know it's going to hurt but I should land far away from my gear and be fine or so I thought...

My foot got stuck in the strap and my sail sheeted in again, launching me even faster at the water, at this point I'm out of control and saying my prayers. I think the booties had something to do with getting stuck. This is my favorite shot of the sequence and my new facebook profile shot.

I'm blessed to not have landed on my gear. The wind got knocked out of me, I was seeing stars, and coughing up blood. Not the best start. I managed to finish my heat but kind of just sailed back and forth for most of it. I coughed up blood for about an hour, but besides a sore neck and back I was fine. Super thankful because it could have been much much worse.
More stories to come, but I got to get in the water now. Warm water whoohoo!
This is just funny.

To the Gorge

We're heading up to the Gorge now and looking for a place to stay. Adventure after adventure; river floating, camping, redwoods, and long drives.

We had some really fun sailing yesterday, I'll have more pictures up as soon as I find a fast internet connection.

It's a wrap!

Contest is over. Nate Mershon won and he deserved it. He was ripping the whole contest. Zane got robbed in the stand-up contest, he killed it! I didn't do so well, I haven't sailed much since February and my back was bothering me. I'm uploading some picks and should have them up by tomorrow morning. We've had some great adventures, and some really good luck, Sonya won a new stand-up paddle board at the drawing!! Pics to come tomorrow.
Aloha,
Nick

Forecasts

The forecasts are looking good. Pistol river looks like it's going to be very windy and maybe even a swell! Check it at Americanwindsurfingtour.com. Long range swell forecast for Maui is looking great too. It could be the best south swell in years if it pans out. It should set up very close to the islands and from a good direction.

Why?

Mr. Bee why did you sting me? Now you're dead, and my hand is the size of the mangoes I was picking.

I want to surf!

More action! Looks like there are waves today. It's been a pretty good summer so far for waves.

Eye Candy

Congrats to Albee Layer for winning the winter round of Innersection video contest. Check it out here, and vote for him later this year!

Also a nice video from Steve Jobs, .

Although it has been flat the snorkeling has been great, and we are enjoying summer break.

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

Congrats to Danilo. $55,000 for this wave. This one ride is going to push what is possible in big wave paddle surfing. Peahi is going to be an interesting place next winter. I can't wait to see what guys like Shane Dorian and Mark Healey are going to do out there.

I think the ride Danilo got is going to have just as much impact as the wave Larid got in this video(2:00 minute mark). This wave showed the world what was possible with a jet ski and helped spark tow surfing. I remember buying his movie becuase I had to see the video of that wave.

Check this article out about getting your mind right. Great blog.

I'm thinking about trying out some Prolo Therapy for some ligaments in my back, anyone try it before?

Aloha

Surfing!

I got some time in the water this week! Still not 100% yet though. That last south swell was one of the best we've had in years. Solid surf all over the island. Long range forecasts are looking good too! I can't wait for school to be over, almost there!! Check out the flextail beachtelegraph.com

Also, Quiksilver is sponsoring a ASP World Tour Surfing event at Long Island, New York with 1 MILLION DOLLARS prize money!! Insane!!!

New Website! +Superfreak ME

Hot sails has put up there 2011 website.
Check it out, buy some stuff.

After I wrapped my 4.7 Fire around a few very sharp lava rocks, click here to check out the pictures.

Jeff let me try out a SuperFreak ME. I was a little apprehensive at first, it's Neon green(bright, really bright), completely dacron, and a vinyl window. With a bomb proof mast sleeve and durable Hotsails construction. Before I even got on the water I noticed how light it was. It can be rigged on a 370 which makes it even lighter. On the water it's silent. No crunch and crinkling as you bounce over chops and no flopping of the top panel. It has a soft feel in between the Superfreak and normal mono-film sails. Jumps and aerials have a much softer landing. The sail really shines in powered up wave conditions. It transitions from powered up to neutral and back again very easily. I find that I don't fall as much with it and I'm not as tired after long sessions. It can handle big waves as well as small waves. I plan on always having at least one of these in my quiver. They'll last a long time, and it's fun to say Superfreak ME!

Book Review
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
Written in the 30's about the future. People have become mass produced copies of each other who are conditioned to live certain class roles and be happy about it. People are constantly high off a drug called Soma and spend their entire lives filling the status quo. Kind of similar to today. Definitely worth reading though.

Boujma is nutz!

I remember the first photo shoot he came to Maui. I think he was 19. He was doing these huge tweaked tabletops. So knarly! I couldn't believe it!! I didn't even know where Morocco was let alone it had such sick windsurfing and windsurfers.

I stole this video off of beachtelegraph. There is also a sick sequence on GP's blog. Pushing the limits of what is possible. So sick.

Enjoy the video and send some good thoughts his way

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

This post might make you angry for a number of reasons. Please don't read it.

Here is a music video from System of a Down. Listen to them. Check out there bio here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_of_a_Down and the Armenian genocide of 1915 to understand where they are coming from. the lyrics are listed below.

I've been walking through your streets
Where all your moneys are earned
Where all your buildings crying
And clueless neckties working
Revolving fake-lawn houses
Housing all your fears
Desensitized by TV
Overbearing advertising
God of consumerism
And all your crooked pictures looking good
Mirrorism, filtering information for the public eye
Designed for profiteering
Your neighbor, what a guy.

BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!

Every time you drop the bomb, you kill the god your child has born-

BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!

Modern globalization
Coupled with condemnations
Unnecessary death
Matador corporations
Puppeting your frustrations with a blinded flag
Manufacturing consent is the name of the game
The bottom line is money
Nobody gives a FUCK
Four thousand hungry children leave us per hour from starvation
While billions are spent on bombs
Creating death showers

BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!

Every time you drop the bomb, you kill the god your child has born-

BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!

Boom-Boom-Boom-Boom-Boom-Boom-Boom!

Why must we kill our own kind?

BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!

Every time you drop the bomb, you kill the god your child has born.

BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!

Boom-Boom-Boom-Boom-Boom-Boom-Boom-Boom!

Every time you drop the [BOOM!]

That was 2003 and now today...

March 19th 2011 while anyone who watches television and the news(It took me 10 minutes to figure out, but I even turned on the t.v. to see Japan)

was gaping at the destruction in Japan (Please donate money to help them), the U.S. military sent over 110 missiles at Libya. Why? To free oppressed people? Get rid of a dangerous tyrant? Oil? They were a danger to the American way of life? Military complex had an extra 100 missiles they needed to get rid of? I honestly have no idea...

An article in the Maui Times Weekly caught my eye this week. They reported that a
110 missiles that hit Libya were estimated $569,000 each for a nice total of $60,000,000 dollars. That doesn't even include the transportation costs of getting the missiles over there. How does a government that is so far in debt throw away such a massive amount of money. This waste of money isn't being spent on something that could help people, it's being spent on killing people and destroying things.

The innocent people that died are the true victims of this, but anyone who works in the U.S., pays taxes is directly supporting this. My blog stats show that most of my readers are from the U.S. which means that's me and all of you. We are killing people with our taxes and our support of a war monger government and military.

Where are the protesters from a few years ago? Did all the people who were against the Iraq war, vote for Obama, and are now struggling with the fact that he doesn't want to or is unable to change the policies of the past administration?

Shouldn't this bother more people then it has???

The point of the post? I guess there isn't any it's just sad. More innocence dieing for no cause and no fault of their own. You can't be neutral on a moving train.

Had a blast in Lanai. Pictures to come. Spring break is awesome, I can't remember the last time I had a day with no work or school.

Looks like it's been stupid windy here.

Here is a video from February 8th, such a slacker yeah?

Maui's Matt Meola won Innersections video contest with this video and a nice $100,000 dollar check!! He didn't even have to put on a contest jersey to win it too!

Nice video

Sick video from Robby and Jason. Sums up the winter on Maui, not a lot of windsurfing days, but the few days we had were epic!!

Watched the movie 180 South from Patagonia. Nice story of a guy who takes a boat down to Patagonia. He stops in Rapa Nui for a while. Worth watching for sure.

I'm on the injured list again this week with a sore back. Anyone know of a good cheap deep tissue massage?

Check out this new wave pool set up. Just imagine if they could get it a little bigger. Set up some fans with cross-offshore wind for sailing. They just need an unlimited free energy source...

If anyone knows how to post the surfline video on my blog pls let me know.

Insane!! MUST SEE!!

Go to this link check out the videos.

http://www.surfline.com/surf-news/paddle-in-jaws_52386/

This is the morning of the 9th. Paddle in at jaws on the right and the left. The video on page 8 is insane!! Congrats to Kevin, Batel, and Giora for getting all the action and the guy who made that drop!!

This is going to change the lineup at Peahi forever. The coverage they are getting for this is going to make all the heavy paddle in guys show up for the big swells. It'll be really interesting. They really should have mentioned Marcio, he's been out there for years. Much respect.

Thankfully the swell had dropped by the time we got out there. More about the mission to come in a later post. I have to finish a mid-term for a public speech class today. A bit weird to have a written mid-term for a public speech class but whatever.

I.R.

On the injured list again. I think I pulled a muscle in my back last week. The sailing was totally worth it though. Skylar and I scored Hookipa to ourselves for a little bit. Nice size sets coming in too. Anyone know of a good message/chiro guy that takes HMSA insurance? Got a great message from Donna soooo good.

I think I can handle another week before I go crazy. Random video but it's hilarious!

This thai kid is funny as hell too!!

New Water Park Opening in Kihei!!!

My uncle sent me this picture. This is South Kihei rd. right be the cove and Kalama park. The little bit of road that you can see is the parking lot, the street is completely covered up! So crazy. The water is going to be chocolate over there for a while. Last weeks rain already made the water brown and this one has just added on top of it. The problem over there is that the currents don't run very fast out to sea. Most of the dirty water heads North and backs up in the bay around mud flats. Doo doo water on the North shore clears up pretty quickly although it is really nasty when the estuary that runs out at kite beach opens up. That water has been sitting there for a long time and it's all the runoff from Kahului. If you want to check it out, look into the ditch by costco parking lot. We humans really are vile creatures to the earth...

Fingers crossed

Still a week out, but could be amazing. Fun sailing today, really bummed I missed the lanes session, check out Jimmies gallery

Plastic bag ban has taken into effect. It's about time too, but now they have been replaced with paper bags which for the most part are flown in and will end up in the land fill. It's a step in the right direction though...

New Dakine store has opened up in Paia as well. Really nice store and I think they will do well there, I'm really going to miss the canary outlet though...
